  • Hope Tract | Westlynn Baptist Church | North Vancouver

There is hope in this troubled world, for we hope in the eternal God who is faithful and unchangeable. There is Hope I want to talk to someone True Rest, True Satisfaction. “All things are full of weariness; a man cannot utter it; the eye is not satisfied with seeing, nor the ear filled with hearing.” This revealing verse from the Bible (Ecc. 1:8) shows the inadequacy of material things to satisfy our deepest longings. How is it possible that depression rates are at an all time high, even though the world is more developed than ever? Netflix, boredom shopping, free quality healthcare; these things cannot satisfy the human soul. Because the human soul has been made for more than the temporal. So why is he looking for satisfaction in what cannot satisfy? The only God, out of the abundance of his goodness and mercy, made man good, upright, in his own image. Our forefathers, Adam and Eve, lived in perfect harmony with God. Yet, they disobeyed Him, and through their disobedience brought a curse on themselves and their offspring. Has anyone ever told you that you look like your parents? It’s similar when it comes to our spiritual condition; we all inherit the same self-centered sinful heart. Romans 3:23: “for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God.” This is a problem for mankind, because no sin (or sinner) can be in the presence of God. If the average citizen of a country can’t get an audience with the prime minister, how will sinful man approach the transcendent, holy God? Our sin causes us to be separated from the only source of joy and peace, and we deservedly incur the judgment of eternal death in hell. In the midst of this dark prospect, we read this in the Bible (Rom. 6:23): “For the wages of sin is death, but the free gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.” This is the good news of the gospel. God, out of the abundance of his love, made a way for sinful man to be saved from his sins. Jesus Christ came to earth about 2000 years ago, lived the sinless life you and me couldn’t live, and died the death that you and me deserved. As he was hung on the cross, the Son of God bore the wrath of God (Is. 53:5). He paid the debt. He reversed the curse. And after three days he was raised from the grave, proclaiming to the whole world that he is victorious over death. There is Hope. And now He is able to say this to anyone and everyone (Matt. 11:28): “Come to me, all who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest.” Are you restless? Are you tired of the disappointing and wearisome quest for pleasure in earthly things? The answer does not lie in another suscription, another ticket for a concert, or another relationship. Rather, Jesus says that the answer lies in coming to Him for rest. What does this mean? It means to repent of your sins and believe in Christ. To understand that you are a condemned sinner. To understand that your good works cannot blot out your sins, but that by believing in Christ, his perfect righteousness is given to you. To see Christ as your greatest treasure, for whom you are willing to lose it all (Matt. 16:24). And so here is the promise for you (Acts 10:43): “everyone who believes in him [Jesus] receives forgiveness of sins through his name.” It is only in this where the restlesness of mankind can be addressed (1. Pet. 3:18a): “For Christ also suffered once for sins, the righteous for the unrighteous, that he might bring us to God.” Christ came to restore to mankind what they had lost in Adam and Eve: a right relationship with God. It is in this reconciliation, as our sins are blotted out as we believe in Christ, that true joy and peace can be found. And so, it is appropriate for you to hear the question that was asked the disciples when they came to find Christ’s dead body (Luke 24:5b): “Why do you seek the living among the dead?” Things of earth cannot satisfy your eternal soul. It is as you see with your spiritual eyes the beauty of Christ, and as your hear about the love of God in sending Christ to redeem condemned man, that you will be truly satisfied. Come to Christ today and find true rest and true satisfaction for your soul! I want to talk to someone

  • Biblical Counselling | Westlynn Baptist Church

Biblical Counselling I need to talk to someone What is Biblical Counselling ? Biblical counselling is the soul care ministry of God’s people under the oversight of God’s church, dependent upon the authority and sufficiency of God’s Word through the work of the Holy Spirit. Biblical counselling seeks to reorient disordered desires, affections, thoughts, behaviours, and worship toward a God-designed image of man with the purpose to restore people to a right fellowship with God and others. Biblical counselling is fundamentally a theological task. The work of understanding the problems which require counselling and of helping people with those problems requires theological faithfulness and submission to the way God explains life. The aim of Biblical Counseling is not only to deal with a sinful habit, a difficult relationship, or a chronic illness or a loss. Its final and long-term aim is Christlikeness, a life lived in purity and holiness of heart and mind, in action, speech, attitudes and thoughts. Biblical counseling ministers to the inner man (our heart, mind, or soul) where transformation by God’s Word through the Holy Spirit starts, and it results in biblical change in the outer man (our bodies, behaviour, and speech) living to love, worship and serve God. Why Biblical Counselling ? We believe that God’s Word, the Bible, is sufficient to resolve life’s most challenging situations and questions. Though followers of Christ are made right with God by Christ alone, through faith alone, not through good works, they continue to live in a corrupt world and in weak and totally deprived bodies. By ministering God’s truth, Biblical counseling partners with the believer in pursuing a biblical way of thinking and living every day, to please God and to become more like Christ (progressive sanctification). Faith leads to works, to a disciplined life and commitment to live to serve and please our Maker and Redeemer, which is our God given goal on earth. When Do I Know I Need Biblical Counselling ? When you struggle with unbiblical ingrained habits (of thinking, speech, or behaviour), a difficult relationship, grief, chronic illness, anxiety, anger, depression, temptations you cannot overcome, or any other life circumstance where you need to know God’s will, work, and perspective. How and W here Can I Get Biblical Counselling ? You can contact us via the link below by completing the Personal Data Inventory (PDI) form and emailing it back to us. We shall respond within a week. There is a bridge over the Niagara River. It is one of the great highways of the nation; trains pass over it every few minutes of the day. When they began to make the bridge, the first thing they did was to take a boy’s kite and send a little thread across the stream. It seemed a very small thing, but it was the beginning of a great work. So if we only lead one soul to Christ, eternity alone may tell what the result will be. You may be the means of saving some one who may become one of the most eminent men in the service of God that the world has ever seen. We may not be able to do any great thing; but if each of us will do something, however small it may be, a good deal will be accomplished for God. For a good many years I have made it a rule not to let any day pass without speaking to some one about eternal things. I commenced it away back years ago, and if I live the life allotted to man, there will be 18,250 persons who will have been spoken to personally by me. That of course does not take into account those to whom I speak publicly. How often we as Christians meet with people, when we might turn the conversation into a channel that will lead them up to Christ. --D.L. Moody, To The Work! To The Work! Exhortations to Christians (p. 63) The Gospel is Only Good News If It Gets There in Time How true this statement is! The Gospel is undeniably the power of God for salvation and there is no other name given under heaven by which can be saved except through the name of Jesus Christ. Yet, how can people believe in Christ if they have never heard of him? How can they can hear unless people are willing to preach the Gospel to them? And how can people preach if no one is sent or willing to go? The majestic mountains and the flowing rivers of our fair city are undeniably beautiful, but their beauty pales in comparison with the beautiful feet of those that shine with the light of the glory of the gospel of Jesus Christ. For the splendors of heaven and earth will pass away, but a soul that has received the gospel of Jesus Christ will never pass away, but will enter the gates of glory and dwell in the presence of God forever. Friends, our time on earth is short to reap precious souls for our Master, so let us be diligent to labour for the Lord who redeemed our lives from the pit and has commissioned us to be his royal ambassadors of eternal hope to a dying world. Let us experience the joy that Jesus spoke of when he said, "It is more blessed to give than to receive." Article by: Samuel Chua To God I Pray For eyes I pray to see and feel what prophets longed to taste, How God’s own Son, gave up his life— for sinners ran his race. For faith I pray to overcome the world and false delight, The devil’s lies and compromise, to shine with gospel light, For hope I pray that does not shame— I’m never left alone, For in my heart the Spirit’s love, has marked me as his own, For love I pray that does not boast, nor press for its own way, But bears, believes and hopes all things, till th’perfect comes to stay, For joy I pray to suffer well— a slave of Christ my king, Though shackles chain my arms of flesh, yet still his praise I sing For peace I pray to quell my fears concerning earthly cares To guard my anxious heart and mind in every day’s affairs For grace I pray to understand, though Satan’s thorns I bear, His power in my feebleness, reveals my Master’s care. For pow’r I pray to preach the Word that pierces hearts of stone, and reap the fields of human souls and shepherd lost ones home, Oh Father God, who called me first, and drew my heart to thee, Preserve my soul till home I come, to live eternally. This is part of an initiative by the care centre where they bring volunteers in from various churches every Sunday afternoon to hold a worship service for their residents. The service runs at 2:00 to 2:30 p.m. Volunteers must arrive at 1:40 p.m. and will usually be finished at 3:00 p.m. Please speak to Janet if you're interested in helping out. foodprogram Food Program Registered Clients Only Alternate Thursdays, 12:30 pm Westlynn Food Program exists to be the hands and feet of Jesus. It is for those in our community who can benefit from bi-weekly food donations. Westlynn Food Program is a food distribution site operating under the umbrella of Immigrant Link Center Society . The Immigrant Link Center Society was established in 2016 and started the "Win-Win Project" that distributes perishable surplus foods that are still viable from partnering grocery stores (that would otherwise have been thrown out, adding to landfill waste) free of charge. Food donations include vegetables, fruits, meats, dairy, deli products, breads, and bakery goods which are then sorted into boxes by volunteers according to family size and requests. This program is for those that receive government/income assistance, RAP benefits, fall within below the low income cut-off (LICO) guidelines, or have other extenuating circumstances. Clients must register to be part of the program. The program has a maximum capacity of 50 clients at any given time. Volunteers serve at the church every other Thursday from 10:30 am to 2:00 pm. Their responsibilities include unloading boxes of food from a delivery truck, sorting food into individual boxes for each family that receives food, distributing boxes to the clients, tearing down boxes for recycling, and cleaning up the space at the end of the day.
